As some of you know, I’m a bit of a facepager. Yes, I call it Facepage. Anyway, I digress. I follow quite a few of pages that love to post the “fitsperation” type photos. Images of, usually, fit women, in workout clothing, sweating, and has some sort of quote like, “You have to FIGHT for it” or “Sweat is just fat crying”. While I think that sometimes it’s catchy and funny, and easy on the eyes, I also feel like it’s off putting. Let me explain. It’s not easy. It’s going to suck. But that’s not super helpful in getting people that are afraid of getting going, off their asses and moving.
I don’t feel like making it sound like there is this epic battle between fat and yourself is good for a beginner. Sure, someone that’s been doing it for a while may find that to be motivating, I just feel for a beginner it may be a turn off.
Instead, maybe it’s more about a journey to fitness, or a pilgrimage to health. Just had a strange vision of the Pilgrims doing burpees in those big hats and boots with large buckles. It’s tough enough just getting the courage to stand up and say, “I can do this!” To throw on higher expectations of it being this horrible thing, that it’s going to be an uphill battle against an undefeatable foe, isn’t helpful. How about before and after photos of normal people with captions like, “If I can do it, so can you!” or “I kicked fats ass!”
