A Healthy Relationship with Stress
What stresses you out? What do you do to try to get rid of it?
While I don’t mind hitting the gym from time to time to work off some steam, it’s not always the way that I deal with it. There are a lot of people out there that deal with their stress in that manner. While it’s better than hitting the bottle or pipe, the body does need rest and a vice is a vice. At some point, it becomes the go to for stress relief. Some people grab for cigarettes, some people go to happy hour and some hit the gym. I suggest trying different things out, regularly. Go for a long, slow walk. Pick up a book that you’ve been meaning to read and get through a few chapters. Jump on a bike and ride for a little while. Make a to do list and start ripping through it. Call, not text, a friend and talk it out. Find some peace and quiet. Listen to some relaxing music (I LOVE this song to chill out to).
It’s probably pretty strange for me to tell my clients to not always come to the gym when they are stressed out, but it’s about a healthy relationship with stress, and with the gym. I want to make sure that you get the most out of the gym, and sometimes that means not coming and recovering, relaxing, and not always equating stress with the gym. Just my thoughts on the subject. Post your thoughts to comments.
